With Florida Gov. Rick Scott’s endless evasions of myriad legitimate questions from the press garnering national coverage – racking up more points in the “America’s Worst Governor” competition — Daniel Tilson thought he would help out with some snappy new rap song lyrics for “Slick Rick to add a bangin’ beat of his choosing.”

On July 10, Circuit Judge Terry P. Lewis of Leon County ruled as unconstitutional two of Florida’s 27 congressional districts drawn and passed by the Republican-led Legislature. However, that was far from the end of the saga, says Bob Sparks. Lewis judged the winners and the losers, but not the remedy.

Judge Terry Lewis’ ruling invalidating the boundaries of two congressional districts was issued on July 10 — a Thursday. Julie Delegal notes lawmakers quietly “considered” whether to appeal on Friday.On Tuesday, July 15, lawmakers announced their decision not to appeal the judge’s ruling.

Newspaper stories and blogs continue to document the coming battle over the state constitutional amendment that would permit the use of medical marijuana. However, Barney Bishop points out that reporters write only pro-marijuana stories, giving little coverage to the other side of the story.
