Today on Context Florida: Jesse Panuccio, the Great Divide and a future in politics

Today on Context Florida:

Chris Timmons discusses why it is important to note the resignation of Jesse Panuccio as director of the state’s Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO). Newspapers and blogs have pronounced him a “trusted” adviser of Gov. Rick Scott, who is increasingly becoming less autocratic and opening up to the possibility that the Legislature is a coequal branch of government. He had to get rid of his most “trusted” advisers and “catalyst” for all that is emblematic of his administration in order to concede to that reality. On those terms – Scott realizing he is governor, not CEO – Jesse Panuccio had been a real dynamo at DEO.

According to Dr. Marc Yacht, for America to survive, we must close the “Great Divide” of major factions that divide the nation: liberal and conservative. The liberals are partitioned as moderate, left-wing and extreme left-wing. Similarly, the conservatives segregate as moderate, right-wing and extreme right-wing.  Internal squabbling exists on both sides in a battle for dominance. The left-wing holds most sway among the liberals and the extreme right has greatest influence among the Conservatives. The moderates have been neutralized. The solutions require both parties to move toward centrist ideas, he says.

Most years, Steve Schale spends a good chunk of his December talking to children getting ready to graduate and young professionals looking to get into politics. It is one of the more enjoyable things he does. Of all the things Schale is most proud of in his career, he says the biggest achievement isn’t wins or mentions, it’s seeing the success of so many of “the children” he worked with along the way.
