Tom Lee campaign responds to reports that Rachel Burgin indirectly financed attacks on his family

Presser from State Senate candidate Tom Lee:

It was revealed today that Representative Rachel Burgin was directly responsible for the funding of the unprecedented personal attack on Tom Lee’s family. After learning that the mailer itself was illegal, we have now learned that Rachel Burgin secretly solicited at least $10,000 from a gambling lobbyist for the committee that delivered the mailer in question. Burgin told The Tampa Tribune just yesterday that she knew nothing of the committee’s action.

According to the Miami Herald today, Burgin solicited the money from gambling lobbyist David Ramba who wrote the check from a committee that represents so called “internet cafes,” which are small gambling operations. Ramba told the Herald that Burgin had told him where to direct the money and “since she has been supportive of our issues, we were happy to do it.”

“I have never in my life experienced anything as disgusting as my family being attacked by these scurrilous people,” Tom Lee said. “To now find out that my opponent, Rachel Burgin, was responsible for the funding of that attack is absolutely beyond the pale.”
