Local Republicans will pick a new Hillsborough County party chairman next week, hoping to rejuvenate a party known as one of the state’s largest and most active, but which is still plagued by divisiveness.
Senator Tom Lee appears to be the favorite to win the post, especially if support from local legislative leaders is any indication.
“Tom’s knowledge and his relationships across Florida and in our State Capitol will make Hillsborough County’s Republican Party stronger, better prepared and more successful in winning elections,” said State Representative James Grant.
Joining Grant in supporting Lee’s bid to be chairman is State Representative Dan Raulerson.
“I’ve known Tom Lee for many years,” said Raulerson. “Tom’s commitment to our community and his ability to achieve successful results has been demonstrated time and again. We need Tom Lee as Chair of the Hillsborough County Republican Party and I am pleased to offer Tom my strong endorsement and support.”
Another legislative leader backing Lee is State Rep. Dana Young.
“Tom will bring that experience to the Chairmanship and I am confident that, with his leadership, Hillsborough County’s Republican Party will be well prepared to win in 2014,” said Young.
Hillsborough County Republican Executive Committee members will vote on the new chairman Dec. 11.
