Tom Lee soundly beat Rachel Burgin in the District 24 State Senate Republican primary.
“I always believed in this community and my name and I feel very vindicated tonight,” said Lee as he celebrated with supporters at the offices of the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce. “We’ve won by a wider margin than I could have ever expected.”
Burgin was not immediately availale for comment.
With all but one precinct reporting, Lee leads Burgin by more than 4,600 votes.
The seat is currently held by Sen. Ronda Storms who is running for Hillsborough County property appraiser. The winner will face Democrat Elizabeth Belcher in the fall for the right to represent Senate District 24 which includes Brandon, Riverview and Bloomingdale.
One of the most hotly contested Republican primaries in the state, this race had everything from robo-calls to reprimands from the chairman of Florida’s GOP.
