State Rep. Travis Hutson apparently does not like to waste time.

Facing no opposition this year in House District 24, but reported to be interested in running for John Thrasher’s state Senate seat once Thrasher is confirmed as President of Florida State University, the Elkton Republican is holding a campaign kickoff event this month for his 2016 re-election bid.

The fundraiser begins 5 p.m. on October 21 at 13426 Mandarin Road in Jacksonville.

Reception co-chairs include heavyweights such as Republican lobbyist Marty Fiorentino, Ormond Beach transportation engineer Maryam Ghyabi and Vestcor Companies Chair, and former ambassador John Rood. Among the nearly 40 people on the host committee, mostly GOP big-money people, is also former RPOF chairman and Jacksonville mayoral candidate Lenny Curry.

District 24 includes Flagler County and parts of St. Johns and Volusia counties.
