U.S. Rep Ted Yoho says tax on tanning is a “racist”

According to Republican U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, an Obamacare provision is a “racist tax,” and discrimination “because of the color of my skin.”

Roll Call reports that the first-term representative from the state’s Third Congressional District spoke at a recent town hall event when he related a conversation with House Speaker John Boehner on the subject of a 10 percent tax on tanning beds.

“I had a little fun with [John] Boehner and told him about the sun tanning tax,” Yoho said, talking about the speaker’s much-referred-to browned complexion.

As recounted by the liberal activist group People for the American Way, Yoho said that Boehner replied, “You know what, it is.”

The same town hall event had Yoho telling the audience he would also back legislation to “look into the birth certificate” claims that president Obama was not born in the U.S.
