Three members of Congress from South Florida are marking the 79th anniversary of the passage of Social Security.

Representatives Alcee Hastings, Ted Deutch and Patrick Murphy are holding a hearing in West Palm Beach on Tuesday to mark the occasion and to stress their support for the program.

The event is sponsored by the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, which says many seniors dependent on Social Security are finding it harder to make their checks keep pace with rising costs.

All three politicians are Democrats.
