U.S. Reps. Mario Diaz-Balart and Tom Rooney today became just two of the most recent endorsements of Florida Senate Majority Leader Lizbeth Benacquisto in the special election for Congressional District 19.

“Washington is broken and this President has no interest in fixing it,” Diaz-Balart says in a statement released Monday. “Lizbeth’s fighting spirit and proven ability to get things done are just what we need to get things moving for hardworking Florida families.”

“I am honored to have the support of two of Florida’s strongest conservatives in Washington,” Benacquisto responded. “Together, we will fight to cut taxes, balance the budget and reduce regulations that are holding back our economy – just as I have done here in Florida.”

“Lizbeth is a proven and trusted leader,” Rooney adds. “Washington desperately needs more people like her and I look forward to standing shoulder-to-shoulder with her to fight for the fiscal responsibility the people of Florida need and deserve.”

Diaz-Balart and Rooney are the latest entries in a growing list of conservative community leaders and organizations who believe Benacquisto is a “genuine conservative” that can be “trusted to fix Washington:”

  • U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz (Utah)
  • State Sen. Garrett Richter
  • Naples Mayor John Sorey
  • Sanibel Mayor Kevin Ruane
  • Fort Myers Mayor Randy Henderson
  • Fort Myers Beach Mayor Alan Mandel,
  • Former opponent and veteran Brian Gibens
  • Former State Rep. Gary Aubuchon
  • Former Naples Vice-Mayor Gary Price
  • Concerned Women for America
  • Maggie’s List
  • Susan B. Anthony List
  • ShePAC

Benacquisto faces former automobile-wheel manufacturer CEO Curt Clawson and former State Rep. Paige Kreegel in the April 22 GOP primary. The general election is June 24.
