U.S. Rep. Allen West has set up shop in downtown Stuart in his multimillion-dollar bid to represent St. Lucie, Martin and northern Palm Beach counties in Congress.
The Plantation Republican announced Wednesday his campaign has opened its headquarters at 735 Colorado Ave., Suite 9 in Stuart for the congressional race. Campaign manager Tim Edson said the office is up and running, and residents may stop by to pick up campaign materials or volunteer. The office will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
“We look forward to being part of the Stuart community and working to re-elect Congressman West from an office centrally located on the Treasure Coast,” Edson said in a release.
West, who has amassed $7.7 million and already spent $4.4 million on the campaign, has not pinned down a date for the grand opening ceremony at his Stuart headquarters yet, Edson said.
His Democratic competition Patrick Murphy had a grand opening at his Palm Beach Gardens campaign office last month. The Broward County accountant who recently moved to Jupiter set up his headquarters at 11380 Prosperity Farms Road, Suite 209-A. Murphy has accumulated about $1.8 million and spent around $726,000 of those campaign dollars.
Martin County Sheriff Robert Crowder, who raised $26,800 in his first quarter of campaign activity, said he hasn’t announced a headquarters in his grassroots effort to topple West in the August GOP primary. Democrats Jim Horn of Palm City and Jerry Buechler of Port St. Lucie are also in the running.
