Democratic congressional candidate Al Lawson was the beneficiary Thursday of a fundraiser in Washington attended by U.S. Reps. Corrine Brown of Florida and James Clyburn of South Carolina.

The high profile support from congressional Democrats may spell trouble for state Rep. Leonard Bembry, D-Greenville, Jay Liles and Alvin Peters, three other Democrats who qualified this week to run in the 2nd District, with the winner of the Democratic primary taking on incumbent U.S. Rep. Steve Southerland, the freshman Republican from Panama City.
