Apparently, beneath Stephen Colbert’s hilariously iron-fisted exterior lies the heart of a trendy, middle-class 20something. That or he just really knows his demographic. Either way, the titan of truthiness has been on his game of late, inviting some choice indie acts to perform on The Colbert Report — The Mountain Goats, T.V. On the Radio, and The Hold Steady, to name a few .
Last night was no exception when Vampire Weekend stopped by to promote their latest effort, Contra, and perform “Holiday” off said album. While a great performance, the meat of their appearance, as well as these other acts, was the pre-show interview with Colbert. Among other topics, they discussed the real Contras (the Nicaraguan rebel group from the ’80s), the nauseating vampire trend they’ve fallen victim to, and why anyone should give a fuck about an Oxford Comma.
