The embattled but seemingly happy warrior, Republican Congressman Vern Buchanan leads Democratic challenger Keith Fitzgerald, according to a one-page memo from pollster Glen Bolger of Public Opinion Strategies.
Buchanan leads Fitzgerald 58% to 36% according to the survey — meaning Buchanan is over-performing the partisan ID of the district, which polls 53% to 44% for Mitt Romney.
From the memo: “Congressman Buchanan’s brand is strong – he is a good ideological match for the district and despite the anti-Congress political environment, he is viewed favorably by likely voters. CD 16 is looking for a Republican, and Congressman Buchanan is the right fit. After two consecutive uncompetitive races, Congressman Buchanan is on track for a third double-digit win.”
