It is Day 8 of the Dream Defenders’ Capitol protest and they are still hunkered down outside Gov. Rick Scott’s office.

This morning they discussed their plans for the coming day. The agenda includes a surprise announcement this afternoon detailing a new course of action in response to Gov. Rick Scott’s decision not to call a special legislative session.

The protesters want a special session to consider a Trayvon Martin Civil Rights Act, which includes revisiting Florida’s Stand Your Ground law.

Gov. Scott has made it clear he does not plan to call lawmakers back to Tallahassee because he believes in the Stand Your Ground law.

But the Dream Defenders say they are resolute in their effort because they have already seen Scott show some flexibility in the past week.

Agnew says the Dream Defenders understand they must prove to Gov. Scott that there’s growing public sentiment across the country to revisit Stand Your Ground laws.

He believes that’s starting to happen as evidenced by former Republican presidential candidate John McCain, who has come out in support of reviewing such laws.
