Until yesterday, I believed Pam Bondi was the GOP’s best choice for attorney general. But her performance at the Tiger Bay has me — and anyone else who was in the room — questioning her capacity to even do the job. Just watch her answer to the first question of the debate:
Question: I would like to know did you vote for or against Amendment 1 in January of 2008?
Bondi: Can you tell us what Amendment 1 was?
Question: …It was $25,000 worth of additional homestead exemption and portability.
Bondi: Well, absolutely, I support anything…
Question: I asked if you voted for it.
Bondi: If I voted for it? I’ll tell you my personal opinion about it…
Bondi seemed to have no clue what the question was about, although her opponents Holly Benson and Jeff Kottkamp provided detailed, lucid responses to the same question.
But now I know why Bondi was confused about Amendment 1.
According to my research, Bondi failed to vote on this issue in 2008, missing Florida’s presidential primary in January 2008. Here is a screen shot of her voter file:
Notice Bondi failed to vote in the 2008 GOP primary either. Not voting in two out of the last three elections certainly is not the standard one would expect from a candidate for statewide office.
