What goes with drunken pirates better than — health insurance?

As thousands of pirates (and pirate wannabe’s) invade Tampa for the annual Gasparilla parade and celebration, revelers will also receive a little ObamaCare advice.

Get Covered America, the national campaign of Enroll America, will be on hand to offer information about health options available under the Affordable Care Act.

Organizers will hand out fliers — 7 Reasons Pirates Should Get Covered — Saturday, January 25 along downtown Ashley Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The tongue-firmly-in-cheek information sheet includes tips on how preventative health services can help defend against “scurvy” and financial assistance is available for those without enough golden doubloons.

The entire list is available here.

Florida saw an eight-fold increase in December for youth enrollment, a trend reflecting the growing interest of young adults in available affordable coverage. For many, financial assistance available for the first time; 83 percent of enrollees last month received financial assistance for purchasing a plan.

Get Covered America Campaign staff and volunteers will reach out to uninsured consumers wherever they are, such as events like Gasparilla, prepared with information about available financial help and in-person assistance.

Get Covered America has operations in eleven states with a grassroots team with the goal of giving Americans necessary information so they can choose health insurance that is right for them and their families.
