Which insensitive snafu by Governor Rick Scott and his administration was worse…
Scott invoked his “emergency powers” to impose a 15 percent cut to the rates charged by group home workers and case workers that help the 30,000 Floridians with cerebral palsy, autism, and Down Syndrome.
The same day his cuts are announced — Scott appeared at a Special Olympics Torch Run with his wife and other state officials. The run is designed to promote the upcoming Special Olympics in Florida, and raise money for developmentally disabled athletes along the way.
Vetoing funding for a rape crisis center during month promoting Sexual Assault Awareness:
The Florida legislature approved $1.5 million to fund 30 rape crisis centers this fiscal year. But last Tuesday, in the middle of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Gov. Rick Scott vetoed the budget line item. A spokesperson for the governor said the allocation is “duplicative” because sexual violence programs are already covered in the $70 billion budget.
And his supporters wonder why he is still at a 36% approval rate.
