Why is President Obama’s approval rating on the decline?

President Obama’s overall approval rate has slipped from 50.8% in the month before the presidential election, to 45.7% in July. The decline can mostly be ascribed to younger voters.

A story missed by most is that the fifth year of slow economic growth is starting to seriously weaken a key part of the Obama coalition. Many analysts say Republicans are doomed if they cannot improve their position with Latino voters in 2016. But what if a slow economy begins to move younger voters to the Republicans?

While the GOP has a long way to go on social issues to match the sensibilities of most younger voters, there is at least an opening on economic issues. It’s something to watch.
