Why some Florida legislators remind me of Chris Rock

A review of Florida’s 160 lawmakers by the state’s Secretary of State has determined that all of them are registered to vote in the district for which they were elected to represent, reports Michael Van Sickler of the Tampa Bay Times.

On Friday, Maria Matthews, director of the Division of Elections, sent a letter to Gaetz and Weatherford stating that, as of Aug. 29, 2013, not one lawmaker is registered in the wrong district.

No offense to Van Sickler, but this shouldn’t be news.

Legislators are freakin’ suppose to be registered to vote in the district which they were elected to represent. And, as Senator Jack Latvala rightly contends, just because legislators are registered to vote in the appropriate district, that doesn’t prove anything.

“I could change my voter registration to say I live in Timbuktu, but that doesn’t mean I live there,” said Latvala.

Putting aside the thought of Jack Latvala living in Timbuktu, let’s not give too much weight to the fact that legislators are, you know, registered to vote in the district they were elected to represent.

This reminds me of the bit from Chris Rock about the father who brags about paying child support on time.

“(These dudes) always want credit for some sh*t they supposed to do. A (dude) will brag about some sh*t a normal man just does. A dude will say some sh*t like, ‘I take care of my kids.’ You’re supposed to, you dumb motherf*cker! What kind of ignorant sh*t is that? ‘I ain’t never been to jail!’ What do you want, a cookie?! You’re not supposed to go to jail, you low-expectation-having motherf*cker!

To apply Chris Rock to this situation: You’re registered to vote in the district you represent? What do you want, a cookie?! You’re suppose to live in your district, you low-expectation-having m*therfucker!
