Dana Milbank takes note of Kendrick Meek’s speech to the Campaign for America’s Future on Wednesday.
Rep. Kendrick Meek, the Democratic Senate candidate in Florida, is polling in the teens against Republican Marco Rubio and independent Charlie Crist. Maybe it has something to do with his theory of political leadership, which is a bit difficult to comprehend.
“Leadership is about being misunderstood,” Meek informed the audience at the Campaign for America’s Future meeting on Wednesday. “If you’re not misunderstood, you’re not leading.” Silence in the audience. A minute later, Meek returned to this baffling theme. “In the U.S. Congress, we need individuals who are willing to stand up and be misunderstood now. … Am I misunderstood? I think so, on some fronts. But that’s the reason why we’re here.”
