Will Charlie Justice challenge Nancy Bostock?
Will Janet Long run against Neil Brickfield?
These two questions have been swirling around the local political scene for some time now. While the answer to the first question is likely “Yes” and the answer to the second question is “Probably”, what if both questions were finally answered at the same time?
Perhaps that is what will happen this Saturday at the Pinellas Democratic Party’s Kennedy King Dinner. What better setting for Justice and Long to jointly announce their campaigns for County Commission? After all, there will be as many Democrats in one room there as can be found this side of Georgie’s Alibi.
Sure, sure, announcing at the Kennedy King Dinner might force some people to think about Bob Hackworth’s ill-fated campaign which, if memory serves, was launched at the 2010 KK Dinner.
But, if Justice and Long are going to take the plunge, they better get going soon. It’s already March. The Obama for America campaign is recruiting volunteers. The state legislative candidates will be back next week shaking the money trees. That doesn’t leave a lot of oxygen for two down-ballot races.
In fact, Justice and Long will need to run perfect campaigns with lots of help and money to beat Bostock and Brickfield.
Announcing on Saturday would be a good start.
