GOP Congressional hopeful Curt Clawson led in a straw poll of Florida 19th Congressional District candidates during a candidates’ forum hosted by the Tea Party-leaning Southwest Florida Citizens Alliance.

The past automobile-wheel manufacturing CEO received 50.3 percent, followed by 23.3 percent for former State Rep. Paige Kreegel. Aviation authority Michael Dreikorn took 13.5 percent; Libertarian party candidate Ray Netherwood came in last with 12.9 percent.

The forum was held Thursday night at First Baptist Church in North Naples. Lizbeth Benacquisto did not attend.

“Our grassroots supporters have given us such a boost in momentum, and they showed up tonight just like they will on April 22,” Clawson responded to his win.

“It’s no surprise that some in this race continue to be absent at such forums.  We had a spirited dialogue tonight, and I want to thank my fellow candidates who did participate for giving voters the opportunity to compare our platforms and campaigns.”
