David Jolly still appearing on Bill Maher’s show Friday; says Al Franken should too

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

David Jolly fully intends to appear on “Real Time with Bill Maher” Friday night, as do previously scheduled guests Ice Cube and Symone Sanders, the former national press secretary for Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. This despite the controversy circling around the comedian, who used the N-word during his show last Friday night, prompting widespread condemnation and calls for HBO to oust him from the gig. As it stands now, the only previously scheduled guest on the comic’s weekly program who won’t appear is U.S. Sen. Al Franken; Jolly…

5 things I think about today’s St. Petersburg Times (6/15)

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

It’s not the St. Petersburg Times that is drawing my attention today, but its sister publication, the TBT, which ran this cover for today’s edition: Unless my eyes are mistaking me, that ain’t Carole Crist in the picture.  Actually, Carole Crist’s ass looks better than this woman’s, so Charlie put your eyes back in your sockets. Howard Troxler addresses just this kind of posturing by politicians.  Not the kind of posturing that has a pol staring at some chick’s t-back,…

5 things I think about today’s St. Petersburg Times — and, yes, I did ‘out’ the new food critic

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Just another bad day for the St. Petersburg Times, which failed to convince a federal judge that the city of St. Petersburg’s new ban on street solicitation should be blocked while the matter winds its way through the courts.  Judge Lazzara said there was no question in his mind that the ordinance was content-neutral, narrowly tailored and that a significant government interest was at stake. The Times lost in court.  And it is also losing — badly, I might add —…

5 things I think about today’s St. Petersburg Times

First question: Ernest, are we gonna re-schedule? — She’s baaaccckkk.  Saint Petersblog nemesis Cristina Silva has returned from a four-month stint in Tallahassee.  The former City Hall reporter tweeted yesterday: @cristymsilva: back in St. Petersburg after nearly four months. What did I miss? Silva actually has an interesting PolitiFact piece answering the important question of whether that’s Barack Obama in the Whoomp! video. Because all black people look alike to the Tea Party racists who first concocted this rumor. Talk about getting…
