Small sinkhole opens outside Donald Trump’s Florida getaway club

in 2017/Top Headlines by

A small sinkhole has opened on the road just outside President Donald Trump‘s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. The Palm Beach Post reports that the 4-foot-by-4-foot hole was discovered Monday in Palm Beach County just west of one the resort’s entrances. It is near a new water main and isn’t a threat to the president’s property in Palm Beach. The president has spent seven weekends at Mar-a-Lago since taking office, but it is now closed for the summer. Trump is on a…

Donald Trump’s 100-days promises: Fewer than half carried out

in 2017/Top Headlines by

Sure enough, the big trans-Pacific trade deal is toast, climate change action is on the ropes and various regulations from the Obama era have been scrapped. It’s also a safe bet President Donald Trump hasn’t raced a bicycle since Jan. 20, keeping that vow. Add a Supreme Court justice — no small feat — and call these promises kept. But where’s that wall? Or the promised trade punishment against China — will the Chinese get off scot-free from “the greatest…

Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago loses State Department promotion posting

in 2017/Top Headlines by

The State Department has removed its promotional posting about President Donald Trump‘s Florida resort, after a storm of ethics criticism. In an April 4 blog post that was republished by several U.S. embassies abroad, Mar-a-Lago was described as “Trump’s Florida estate,” where he has hosted foreign leaders. “By visiting this ‘winter White House,’ Trump is belatedly fulfilling the dream of Mar-a-Lago’s original owner and designer,” the post said. Left unsaid: Mar-a-Lago is part of Trump’s business empire. After his election,…

County considers special tax for Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago visits

in 2017/Top Headlines by

Commissioners in a Florida county are so tired of spending money on President Donald Trump‘s frequent visits to his Mar-a-Lago resort that some are suggesting a special tax be levied against the property if the federal government doesn’t reimburse its costs. Palm Beach County spends more than $60,000 a day when the president visits, mostly for law enforcement overtime — almost $2 million since January. Sheriff Ric Bradshaw says the county was expected to spend $250,000 during Trump’s recent meeting…

‘Winter White House’ a winning brand for Donald Trump’s business

in 2017/Top Headlines by

No doubt Florida’s oceanfront Mar-a-Lago resort is an impressive site for a summit between the presidents of the U.S. and China. And it’s a pretty nice business advertisement, too, for the owner of the luxurious, members-only private property. That would be Donald J. Trump. Even before this week’s summit, President Trump and his aides had begun referring to Mar-a-Lago as the “Winter White House,” a marketing coup for a man who has made millions selling his personal brand. Now the…

An angry weekend follows on heels of frustrations for Donald Trump

in 2017/Top Headlines by

President Donald Trump started his weekend in Florida in a fit of anger over his young administration getting sidetracked just days after his most successful moment in office. He returned to the White House late Sunday derailed — again. Trump’s frustration appeared to be both the symptom and the cause of his recent woes. Angry about leaks, errant messaging and his attorney general landing in hot water, he fired off a series of tweets that only ensured more distractions. His…

Donald Trump’s visits to Florida costing sheriff $1.5 million in OT

in 2017/Top Headlines by

Donald Trump‘s visits to his South Florida estate since he was elected president have cost the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department $1.5 million in overtime costs. Sheriff Ric Bradshaw is confident the money his department has spent while assisting the Secret Service will be reimbursed by the federal government. “I do hope he is correct,” said Palm Beach County Administrator Verdenia Baker. The county sent letters to federal officials in December seeking reimbursement for the overtime security costs from Trump’s…
