Florida Lottery reports record August sales, second year in a row

For the second consecutive year, the Florida Lottery is reporting record sales, posting $467 million in revenue for August. This all-time high was an increase of 5.29 percent over last year’s August record. Lottery officials say the games generated an estimated $120 million in contributions to the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF), driven “primarily by a series of rollovers and high jackpots for both POWERBALL and MEGA MILLIONS.” Lottery contributions make up approximately 6 percent of the state’s education budget.…

The Florida Lottery set “an all-time record high” of $467 million in ticket sales for August, the agency announced. This comes after the agency reported having the best-ever July — the first month of the state’s fiscal year — for sales. In a Tuesday press release, the Lottery said the August figure also was roughly five percent higher than last August’s sales. The increases were attributed to “a series of rollovers and high jackpots for both Powerball and Mega Millions” games.…

Higher Cash 3 and Play 4 sales, as well as increased scratch-off ticket sales, have led to a growth in Florida Lottery revenue, according to the state’s economic forecasters. Total ticket sales were $79 million over estimate for July-November of this year, the state’s Revenue Estimating Conference reported earlier this month.
