West collected more than $1.8 million during the first quarter of 2012, including $857,266 from donors who gave less than $200. But the first-term communist hunter also spent more than $1.2 million in the quarter, most of it on his direct-mail money machine.
West ended the quarter with $3.3 million in cash on hand.
But it’s West’s overall number of $7.5 million raised that deserves consideration. This number dwarfs the efforts of either George LeMieux or Connie Mack, yet they’re the ones struggling, err, running for the US Senate.
Bill Nelson should be thanking his lucky stars West tempered his ambitions for this election cycle.
