Americans for Prosperity launches video thanking Steve Southerland for Obamacare stance

Americans for Prosperity is releasing a video thanking U.S. Rep. Steve Southerland for his strong position against the Affordable Care Act.

“On healthcare, Steve Southerland has it right,” says the narrator of the 30-second digital ad, “he puts us first, not special interests.”

The spot, which will be running across the Florida Panhandle starting today, praises the Panama City Republican for his effort to “bring accountability to lawmakers for their positions on Obamacare.” Southerland, the two-term congressman from Florida’s 2nd Congressional District, has opposed the ACA since its inception in 2009.

“In Washington, it can be tough to remember to stand for regular folks rather than play political games, but Rep. Southerland has made the right call,” AFP representatives said in a prepared statement. “He knows ObamaCare isn’t working, and he’s taken action. For that, he deserves our support.”

Americans for Prosperity is a conservative/libertarian issue advocacy group originally founded in 2004 by billionaire political activist brothers Charles and David Koch. AFP now boasts 2 million activists nationwide and more than 100,000 activists in Florida.

A leading supporter of the Tea Party movement, AFP concentrates on preserving free markets and entrepreneurship, as well as lower taxes and significant limits on government regulation and spending.

Southerland faces Democrat Gwen Graham, daughter of former governor Bob Graham, in the 2014 midterms. Graham is campaigning hard against the incumbent Republican over his position on an ACA repeal.
