Teachers from across North Florida held a press conference to announce their endorsement of Gwen Graham for Congress today. Graham, teachers and a student took the podium at the Florida Press Center surrounded by educators and students who support her campaign

“In Congress, I’ll stand up for teachers and students with an independent voice,” Graham said.

Graham was the chief labor negotiator for the Leon County School District, where it was her job to bring two opposing sides together to reach agreement — a skill desperately needed in Congress today, says Graham’s campaign.

“It is a privilege and an honor to support Gwen Graham,” said Arnitta J. Grice-Walker, president of Gadsden County Classroom Teachers Association. “Gwen is the strong voice that we need in Congress.”

The local teachers also announced that Gwen has received early endorsements from the National Education Association and the Florida Education Association. This is the Florida Education Association’s first endorsement of a 2014 congressional challenger in Florida.  The organization reserves early support for candidates who are “exceptionally good as far as public education is concerned,” according to Mark Pudlow, a spokesman for the Florida Education Association.
