Developer wins $16.5 million judgment against Pinellas County

A circuit judge ruled Wednesday that Pinellas County commissioner intentionally denied a developer its constitutional rights by failing to grant a proposed zoning and land use change. Now, the county must pay $16.5 million in lost profits and interest to the Richman Group of Florida. The county must also pay attorneys’ fees to Ed Armstrong and Scott McLaren of the Clearwater firm Hill Ward Henderson for representing Richman in the lawsuit. Swiftmud appoints new executive director

Brian Armstrong was appointed executive director of the Southwest Florida Water Management District during the agency’s Tuesday board meeting. “I’m truly humbled that I have the opportunity to lead such a talented staff,” Armstrong said. Armstrong will succeed Robert Beltran who announced his resignation earlier this month. Seminole has opened its “Digital Den,” a state-of-the-art digital arts studio that’s the first of its kind in a municipal recreation setting.
