Email insights: Residents want electric; PSTA recommended diesel

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Despite a modest flow of emails urging otherwise, the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority will likely opt to replace its fleet’s oldest diesel buses with new diesel buses. That’s if the PSTA’s board of directors follow its finance committee recommendations. Last week, the committee voted 4-1 for recommending the purchase of nine new Gillig diesel buses, rather than electric or hybrid-electric buses. The 15-member PSTA Board, whose members have the final say, will hold a vote at 9 a.m. Wednesday to determine which route they want to go with the purchase. And while it’s…

Earlier this month, a 9-year-old boy drowned in the waters off of St. Pete Beach. Now, Pinellas County is re-evaluating the warning signage — or lack thereof — on its beaches. “I want to take a look at the signage and see if there’s anything else we can do on our beach front,” said longtime Pinellas County Commissioner Ken Welch, speaking during Commission’s Oct. 20 meeting. “Because, a parent might think that if you’re in ankle-deep water, you’re OK. Obviously,…

Blaise Ingoglia to Pinellas GOP: Republican message still best, just needs new shoes

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

When it comes to technological campaigning, the Republican Party’s been behind the curve. Blaise Ingoglia, chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, knows this. And he’s trying to fix it. “Like it or not, Barak Obama has changed the game when it comes to politics,” said Ingoglia last week to a standing-room-only crowd at the Feather Sound Country Club, in Clearwater. “Now, because of technology, campaigns are more fluid.” The game change Ingoglia was referring to was President Obama’s heavy…

Mayoral appointment leads to opening on South St. Pete Citizen Advisory Committee

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

When St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman appointed attorney Leah McCrae to her new director of education and community engagement position, he inadvertently opened up a spot on the South St. Pete CRA Citizen Advisory Committee. McCrae, who was one of the committee’s original nine members, relinquished her role as a citizen adviser to the South St. Pete CRA to avoid any conflicts of interest her new post might have caused. South St. Pete’s CRA (community redevelopment area) was established by…
