New poll finds only single-digit support for Alma design of St. Pete Pier

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

A third poll has confirmed what two others have already shown – residents overwhelmingly favor the Destination St. Pete Pier design over all others. In a new survey commissioned by Florida Politics, St. Pete Polls asks residents which of the three remaining pier designs they favored, Pier Park, Destination St. Pete Pier or the Alma. More than 45 percent chose Destination as their preferred design. What’s more telling in the latest survey though is how few chose Alma. Fewer than…

St. Pete Polls president and avid Pier process watcher Matt Florell posted a screen shot of the results from a city-run survey where the public overwhelmingly chose Destination St. Pete Pier as their clear favorite. In his Facebook post, Florell noted that the results had inexplicably been removed from the city’s website. They haven’t. During a public survey then ended earlier this month, Destination St. Pete emerged as a clear favorite. But after hours of presentations and several rounds of eliminating other designs, Destination was last on the list…

The committee has officially voted Prospect Pier out of the process at number four. Based on averages of all of…

Pier Selection Committee to announce design ranking today

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

The Pier Selection Committee will make its long-awaited ranking of the seven designs shortlisted to replace the current inverted pyramid Friday morning beginning at 8:30 a.m. The top of those will likely take the contract. It’s been a long and tumultuous road for city officials on a quest to find a new icon for St. Pete’s downtown waterfront. In 2013 it looked like there would be a lavish over-water walkway. But it was dubbed a sidewalk to nowhere and voted…
