Charlie Cook on Jeb’s national favorability problem

in Top Headlines by

Ah, brothers. Such an embarrassment sometimes. Jimmy Carter had Billy the beer-swilling redneck, Bill Clinton had Roger the cocaine distributor and Lyndon Johnson had Sam Houston, the other beer-swilling redneck. The conventional wisdom is that Jeb Bush will have something of an albatross around his neck owing to his brother’s relatively unpopular tenure in the White House — so then why is he polling less favorably than George W. Bush among Republican primary voters?, asks Charlie Cook in National Journal: While 86 percent of those who identified themselves as Democratic primary voters said…

Last week, Antonacci’s roster of clients were relatively anodyne, but not so as of today with the registration of his fourth client. New Department of Corrections Secretary Julie Jones is looking to overhaul exactly the kinds of facilities run by Corizon amid reports…

Bills to alter tobacco settlements referred to committees

in Top Headlines by

A smoldering battle in the Florida Legislature affecting the manner in which four major tobacco firms will have to pay up more than 4,000 claimants has taken an early step toward its climax: bills by state Sen. Garrett Richter and state Rep. David Santiago have escaped the session slush pile and been referred to committees in both chambers. The proposal’s original version, Richter’s SB 978, will face just two committee stops: Judiciary and Rules. The House companion sponsored by Santiago will also forgo the…
