Jamie Bennett supporter Will Michaels on Bennett: ‘I don’t think he has a chance’

Neighborhood leader and St. Petersburg Preservation president Will Michaels sounds like he’s getting off the Jamie Bennett for mayor bandwagon. He returned a message from Bay Buzz today to talk about the allegations surrounding the Bennett campaign. He didn’t officially pull his endorsement, but he was hardly a cheerleader of Bennett’s prospects.

“I think he’s a good man,” Michaels said of Bennett. “Obviously, he made a serious error in judgment by hiring Peter Schorsch. No doubt about it. It’s hurt him, obviously, badly.”

Michaels said he hopes allegations against Bennett’s campaign don’t forever tarnish his eight-year record on City Council. On the election, Michaels said:

“I don’t think he has a chance of winning right now,” said Michaels, who pictures Bennett more of an issue candidate free to speak his mind. “I think he realizes that too.”

On who Michaels intends to support: “Well, that’s tough. I think I’ll wait to the primary before I get into the busines of making any more endorsements.”
