Better lucky than good: David Rivera won’t be charged

U.S. Rep. David Rivera won’t be charged with any crimes related to investigations of his financial disclosures, the Miami Herald reported late Tuesday, citing anonymous sources. Records released this week and cited by the paper said investigators with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement suspected possible criminal violations of campaign finance and elections laws but that officials concluded they couldn’t charge the Republican from Miami with breaking any laws. The allegations were primarily that Rivera falsified disclosure forms. Rivera’s campaign said in a statement to the Herald that he “at all times acted in compliance with both the letter and spirit of Florida and federal campaign finance laws and has timely and properly reported all personal income.”Investigators had said last year Rivera may have spend campaign funds on personal expenses.
