Two-term Pinellas County school board member Mary Brown is throwing her support behind Lew Williams in the District 7 race to replace her, according to a press release from Williams’ campaign.
Brown, who is retiring from the board, left a competitive field of candidates in her wake. Williams, a retired Pinellas County schools educator, faces attorney Keisha Bell and retired college professor Jim Jackson in the Aug. 24 primary.
“ I believe that Lew has demonstrated time and time again that he truly cares about students and their families. Lew has served in a number of leadership roles locally, to include the NAACP Education Committee. Combined with his ability to grasp issues quickly, envision academia for the future, focus on the budgetary shortfalls as well as the disciplinary issues in the district, I believe Lew has the attributes that will assist him in helping parents prepare our children for the tough times ahead.”
