Lew Williams files to run for Pinellas School Board

As I predicted/warned yesterday, former principal and area superintendent Lew Williams filed to run for the Pinellas School Board, joining Keisha Bell and Jim Jackson in the bid to replace Mary Brown, who announced Monday she won’t seek re-election. Williams retired from Pinellas schools in 2005 after 34 years as a teacher and administrator. He ran for the School Board in 2006, narrowly missing a runoff in the race eventually won by Peggy O’Shea.

Mendee Ligon withdraws from Pinellas school board race, Lew Williams considering a run

From The Gradebook: St. Petersburg dentist Mendee Ligon announced today she is withdrawing from the District 2, at large race, less than two weeks after she filed. In a press release, she cited personal reasons, noting that her mother has become extremely ill. “My desire to serve the children and parents in Pinellas County is strong; however, my need to be there for my mother is stronger,” she said in the release. — Separately, I’m hearing former area supeintendent Lew Williams is definitely running.
