Follow the bouncing balls

in Apolitical/Peter by

My personal Kirsten Dunst sent me a link to this amazing (amazing in an American Beauty sense) video of 250,000 multi-coloured ‘superballs’ bouncing down the streets of San Francisco. The beautiful track that sets the mood for the commercial is “Heartbeats,” performed by José González from his critically acclaimed debut album, “Veneer.” If you do take the time to view this litle slice of heaven, be sure to view the extended version of this video.

This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends Not with a bang but a whimper. — T.S. Eliot These were the last words of consequence that my father spoke before he passed away in his sleep this past Sunday. That he said them two days before his death is testament to how intelligent and lucid he remained during his four-month struggle with bone, liver and lung cancer.…

In H-48, Ken Peluso, Peter Nehr pull ahead of field

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

In the crowded field to replace Gus Bilirakis in Florida House District 48, Tarpon Springs City Commissioner Peter Nehr and chiropractor Ken Peluso continue to battle each other for the top fundraising spot, while the rest of field still makes impressive gains on their own. Peluso raised more than $18K, beating out Nehr’s 16K. Nehr still holds a significant fundraising advantage, but with thousands of chiropractor, err, physician money coming into his campaign, Peluso is emerging as the primary challenge…

In H-51, Dottie Reeder adds another 5K to her account

in Peter by

Dottie Reeder, so far the front-runner in House District 51 (although our faves Bruce Cotton or Janet Long could easily jump ahead), picked up another $5K for her campaign. That’s a lot less than the $18K she raised in the first quarter she was campaigning, but it was the holidays and all that. Still, Reeder could have landed a real body shot to her opponents with a big quarter and that did not happen. Reading through Reeder’s report, there are…

In H-52, Sean Scott raised $4,375

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Political newcomer Sean Scott (R) raised a decent $4,375 in his first months on the campaign trail. More important than that, however, is the $2,000 expenditure Scott made on December 20 to retain The Mallard Group, the political consulting firm that represents Rep. Frank Farkas, the current office-holder in District 52. In fact, Scott has been seen around town with key Farkas advisor Chris Davis. The Mallard Group had previously worked with Ross Johnson in this race, but that relationship…

On Martin Dyckman’s retirement

in Peter/Statewide/The Bay and the 'Burg by

All at once, it seems so many good people are leaving the Florida political arena. Take for instance the death of Senator Jack Gordon, who passed away before the holidays. Here was the noblest Roman of them all, so to speak. As it is, much of our state is only a few minutes removed from another place in the world and so it’s likey they know little about the enormous contribution Senator Gordon made to this state. Gordon’s death, and…

With fond remembrance, John Spencer

in Apolitical/Peter by

Leo to Josh: “This guy’s walking down the street when he falls in a hole. The walls are so steep he can’t get out. A doctor passes by and the guy shouts up: “Hey, you! Can you help me out? ” The doctor writes a prescription, throws it down in the hole and moves on. Then a priest comes along and the guy shouts up: ” Father, I’m down in this hole. Can you help me out? ” The priest…
