St. Pete posts treasurers’ reports online

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Thanks to a nudge from Karl Nurse and, perhaps, a little blogging of my own, the City of St. Petersburg is now publishing online the campaign treasurers’ reports from all of the candidates running this year. The reports are only in PDF format, so you can’t search a database as you can on the Florida Division of Elections’ website, but this is a good first step.

Where Deveron Gibbons got his money

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

I went to FSU, so I’m not that great at math, so forgive me if I messed up the numbers a bit. It’s clear to me that Deveron Gibbons raised more than 75K from out-of-town donors. I’d be a hypocrite to say I wouldn’t like to see Jamie Bennett take in as much money as possible, but that much dough from outside of St. Pete should raise alarm bells.

Deveron Gibbons raised 21K from lobbyists

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Deveron Gibbons’ impressive fundraising effort — 115K for the 1st Quarter — is quite a haul. But if you take a look at the actual report, there is a lot of information that may end up hurting Gibbons. The first issue that strikes me is not how much money he raised from out-of-town donors, but the fact that he raised more than $21,600 from lobbyists (and their spouses), political action committees, and governmental affairs firm and law offices which lobby.…

Boycotting the Bay Buzz

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

After much consideration and soul-searching, I am going to boycott the Bay Buzz blog on The St. Petersbug Times website. That’s right, I am going cold turkey on The Bay Buzz blog. The guy who can make an article go from 2 comments to 45 is commenting no more. And not for the reasons you might think. I am not giving up on the Bay Buzz because of the articles that are written (or not written, as the case may…

Jamie Bennett raises more than 30K

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Jamie Bennett’s mayoral campaign took in more than $30,000 in cash and in-kind contributions during the most recent quarter of the fundraising calendar. The period began with Bennett’s formal entrance into the race on January 16 and ended on March 31. According to treasurer Bill Boots, who is finalizing the report, we raised $30,918.47 in cash and in-kind contributions. “Our fundraising effort demonstrates the viability of my campaign,” Bennett said. “Along with being the first candidate to collect the 1,000…

Scott Wagman’s pops his cherry

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Take a look at the images of the postcard mailed out on behalf of Scott Wagman’s campaign. What do you not see? That’s right, there is no disclaimer. The $500 fine he will receive for leaving off the disclaimer is but a pittance out of his $19 million fortune. It’s nothing more than a cabinet fixture for his penthouse suite in the Ovation building. But it’s also just another misstep by a candidate (I’m gonna spend 500K, bring in the…
