Thanks to a nudge from Karl Nurse and, perhaps, a little blogging of my own, the City of St. Petersburg is now publishing online the campaign treasurers’ reports from all of the candidates running this year. The reports are only in PDF format, so you can’t search a database as you can on the Florida Division of Elections’ website, but this is a good first step.
I went to FSU, so I’m not that great at math, so forgive me if I messed up the numbers a bit. It’s clear to me that Deveron Gibbons raised more than 75K from out-of-town donors. I’d be a hypocrite to say I wouldn’t like to see Jamie Bennett take in as much money as possible, but that much dough from outside of St. Pete should raise alarm bells.
Deveron Gibbons’ impressive fundraising effort — 115K for the 1st Quarter — is quite a haul. But if you take a look at the actual report, there is a lot of information that may end up hurting Gibbons. Preliminary report on Kathleen Ford’s fundraising indicates she raised a paltry 9K+, while spending more than 4K — almost half her cash on hand.
Jamie Bennett’s mayoral campaign took in more than $30,000 in cash and in-kind contributions during the most recent quarter of the fundraising calendar. The period began with Bennett’s formal entrance into the race on January 16 and ended on March 31.
