“Rick Scott is at it again.”
So begins the latest attack ad released Thursday by Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist.
“Again” counters the recent “false and misleading” claims leveled at the former Republican governor of Florida, who is running for his old job as a Democrat.
The focus of Scott’s original ad is primarily on Crist’s support of Obamacare.
In a conference call on Thursday with the Crist campaign, staffers introduced the 30-second spot, disputing each claim put forward by the incumbent — especially the allegations about the Affordable Care Act.
“Again” takes Scott’s attempts at discrediting Crist head-on and dismantles each point-by-point, providing supporting data from fact-checking websites PolitiFact and FactCheck.org, as well as directly from the Healthcare.gov website.
For example, Crist aggressively counters Scott’s biggest false claim about Obamacare — that the ACA denies pre-existing conditions — with a quick access of the marketplace website.
Crist’s ad counters by pointing out that the governor is looking to “take us back to the days of insurance companies denying coverage for pre-existing conditions,” where “women are charged more than men.”
The ad also addresses Scott’s continued assertion that the ACA puts “lifetime caps on insurance coverage” — even on kids with cancer. The fact is both lifetime and annual dollar limits are eliminated in the health-care law.
The ad begins running in the Tampa Bay market this weekend and is available now on YouTube.
