Christie said “real leaders don’t follow polls” yet Romney campaign spent $881K on polls in July

When New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie declared in his Republican National Convention keynote speech Tuesday night that “real leaders don’t follow polls – real leaders change polls,” it struck Dave Levinthal of POLITICO Influence a little funny.

“That’s because, according to Federal Election Commission records, Mitt Romney’s campaign spent in July spent $881,232 on … polling. And it’s highly unlikely the Romney campaign is burning through that kind of dough just to ignore and discard the reams of information it’s gathered about voters’ leanings, concerns and opinions. Romney has company, though: President Barack Obama’s campaign spent $909,550 on polling expenses in July, FEC records indicate.”
