Christian International School of Healthcare (CISHP) thrived for four years before shutting its doors in 2015.

Now, the former Largo-based school is taking legal action against alumni for defaulting on student loans.

In one such case against a graduate, Lonnekka Williams, the school says she entered an agreement to pay back tuition. The suit claims she failed to uphold her end of the deal.

William signed a “Promissory Note for Deferred Tuition Payment Option,” stating she was to pay the school back for 72 months. Each month, she owed $322 of the original $23,200 borrowed.

The first of payment was scheduled for Jan. 1, 2013.

The school is trying Williams on two counts for damages more than $15,000. On Oct. 12, Williams was summoned, she has until Nov. 1 to respond to the suit.

The school has sued seven other past students from Sept. 22 to Oct. 13, 2016.

At one time, CISHP had as many as 50 students enrolled in practical nursing and RN programs, which provided classroom instruction and on-campus labs equipped with hospital beds, simulators and other equipment. Through a partnership with Clearwater Christian College, students had been taught clinical rotations working on patients in real-world settings.

BayLawsuits notes that Williams received her Florida Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) License Oct. 16, 2012. In 2015, she had opened her own elderly care home in Georgia.

CISHP was located at 300 E. Bay Dr. in Largo.
