A statewide information bus tour and enrollment fair will make stops in Tampa and Orlando this weekend to help Floridians understand the benefits and sign up for healthcare coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

“Coverage is Good Medicine” will be at the Tampa Family Health Center, 8108 N. Nebraska Ave. from 9-11 a.m. and the Dr. James R Smith Center, 1723 Bruton Blvd. in Orlando from 2-4 p.m.

The goals of the events are to create awareness for additional health benefits available during the final months of open enrollment.

In Tampa, the event will feature Mayor Bob Buckhorn, as well as State Reps. Betty Reed and Janet Cruz. At the Orlando leg of the tour, State Reps. Joe Saunders, Victor Torres, Linda Stewart and Bruce Antone, as well as Orlando City Commissioner Samuel Ings will attend.

“Doctors support the Affordable Care Act because we know coverage is good medicine. For millions of Americans who have already signed up, quality, affordable healthcare is now a reality,” said Dr. Mona Mangat, Chair of Doctors for America and an Allergist-Immunologist based in St. Petersburg. “And it can be a reality for millions more who are eligible for coverage but don’t know it yet or about the financial help available.”

“That’s why doctors will be traveling the state and answering Floridians’ questions to help them get covered before the March 31 deadline,” Mangat added. “With a little over 40 days left before the enrollment deadline, Floridians can check out the new affordable plans and get one-on-one help as they make this very personal decision.”

On March 1, doctors will travel to Jacksonville for an enrollment fair with State Rep. Mia Jones and Dr. Vanessa Cullins of Planned Parenthood. The tour will conclude in Tallahassee on March 5, at an enrollment fair on the FAMU campus with Mayor John Marks and State Rep. Alan Williams.

Participating tour partners include Enroll America, Florida CHAIN, Planned Parenthood, Moms Rising, Protect Your Care, National Congress for Black Women, and Organizing for Action.

Doctors for America are a national movement of physicians to help communities across the country to ensure access to affordable, high-quality health care.
