Voters will have another opportunity to get to know St. Petersburg’s next Mayor and City Council members as the business group Keep Saint Petersburg Local hosts a “Meet the Candidates” event Tuesday, September 17.

The candidate forum, focusing on issues affecting locally owned businesses, will be from 6-8 p.m. at NOVA 535, 535 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North.

Moderating the debate is Creative Loafing’s News and Politics Editor Mitch Perry. Questions will come from online submissions by independent business owners and the public through the event’s link www.keepsaintpetersburglocal.org/meet-the-candidates — as well as questions prepared by Perry.

“Our locally-owned businesses generate a greater local economic impact, create more jobs for our residents, give more back to our community and make our city a destination,” says Founder/President, Olga Bof in a statement. “We’d like to hear what the candidates plan to do to not only help our independent businesses survive, but thrive.”

The non-profit Keep Saint Petersburg Local is affiliated with the American Independent Business alliance, whose purpose is to develop a thriving and unique local economy. They act as the voice of independent, locally owned businesses while stressing the economic importance of buying local.

For more information on the Alliance, or about the forum Tuesday night, organizers request to visit www.keepsaintpetersburglocal.org or the group’s Facebook page
