“This is the test of true character,” Governor Crist said at the Christian Family Coalition Breakfast. Shortly after, the gloves came off. “That you do what is right even when no one is watching.”
It was a thinly veiled swipe at Rubio, who has come under fire in the last two days for using a GOP credit card for personal expenses. Rubio immediately lashed out at Crist saying someone in the Crist campaign must have leaked the information.
“I understand he’s a desperate candidate,” Rubio responded. “He’s done in the polls. Two staffers have abandoned his campaign. He’s got a major contributor asking for his money back. So when that happens you are going to do things to attack your opponent personally. I get that.”
The back-and-forth attacked continued.
“He’s to blame for this, trying to create a distraction is quite understandable. I might want to do that if I were him,” Crist argued. “The facts are the facts. This is the guy who charged $113 for a haircut. I pay $11 bucks for a haircut.”
Not so fast, Rubio said. “That card is a charge card secured under my personal credit. Personal expenses on that card were paid for by my personal money.” For more on this story, please click here.
