In case you missed it, St. Petersburg Times columnist Ernest Hooper wrote this morning:
My friend says Tampa’s declining crime rate will go up a tick if the city “steals” the Rays from St. Petersburg, but is it stealing if St. Pete wouldn’t be upset about the move? Sure, Mayor Bill Foster won’t concede the team without a fight, but the general populace seems more interested in fixing the Pier and completing construction of the new Salvador Dali museum. Let me know if I’m wrong.
I think Hooper is dead wrong. I think the St. Petersburg market does the best it can within the economic constraints the city and its residents face. So, let’s tell Ernest Hooper how wrong he is…e-mail Hooper at [email protected].
