The Florida Department of Health (DOH) announced Wednesday the appointment of Marco Paredes, Jr., as the new director of legislative planning. Paredes joins the department from his most recent role as senior manager of state government affairs for Amgen, where he focused on Medicaid budgeting, health care, labor and tax policy.
Paredes received his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami and his JD from Georgetown law. He previously served as legislative director for Miami-Dade County Commissioner Rebeca Sosa, and as director of public policy and government relations for Miami Children’s Hospital.
And if you are feeling some déjà vu, it is not without cause. Paredes’ brother Mike held this same role at DOH from 2003-2006.
“We are pleased to have Marco Paredes join our team to serve the public health needs of Floridians,” DOH chief of staff Kim Barnhill said in a statement. “His background and leadership abilities indicate he will be successful in overseeing the legislative priorities for the Department.”
