Edmonton ends Rowdies mini-hot streak with 1-0 victory

in Sports/Top Headlines by

So much for the Tampa Bay Rowdies getting onto a hot streak.

Following an impressive come-from-behind draw and a victory over the New York Cosmos, the Rowdies dropped a 1-0 game to FC Edmonton on the road. The loss kept the Rowdies tied for last place in the Fall Season, although the Rowdies continue to hold onto fourth place in the combined standings.

Tampa Bay did not start the game well, giving up a goal in the 16th minute to Albert Watson and playing poorly.

“How we started the game wasn’t us,” Rowdies Head Coach Stuart Campbell said. “We didn’t play with any intensity. We didn’t play with good tempo. We turned it around, though, and finished the half pretty well.”

The Rowdies played better as the game went along, but they were unable to find the net.

“We completely dominated possession in the second half, hit the woodwork and got into some decent shooting opportunities, but we didn’t pull the trigger,” Campbell said. “We turned down too many shots. That’s something we’re going to work on this week.”

The Rowdies are 10th of 11 teams in the NASL in scoring during the Fall Season.

Tampa Bay is home next week against San Antonio at Al Lang at 7:30 p.m.
