Hillsborough County resident Sam Perrone has filed a series of election complaints against incumbent Republican State Representative Shawn Harrison for allegedly misrepresenting the endorsement of a local firefighters union.
”In the September 2012 edition of Palms Magazine, an advertisement by Shawn Harrison claims that he was Endorsed by the International Association of Firefighters,” reads the complaint. “However, his opponent, Mark Danish, was endorsed by the IAFF in August. This ad is a blatant misrepresentation of the IAFF. He is claiming to have an endorsement that he was not given. This is a clear violation of chapter 106.143(4).”
Last month, the Tampa Firefighters Local 754 endorsed Harrison’s opponent, Mark Danish.
Perrone attached to his complaint two instances of Harrison touting the endorsement of Tampa’s firefighters (here and here).
I’m waiting to hear back from Harrison’s campaign.
The race for House District 63 is not, to date, considered especially competitive as Harrison is a popular incumbent with a large campaign warchest. However, as Kartik Krishnaiyer of The Political Hurricane notes, Barack Obama won the district with 54% of the vote.
