U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel’s most recent email hits on things every mother has in common — they are all women, and they all have children.
That makes Mother’s Day a most opportune time to talk about standing up for what is right, values imparted on the West Palm Beach Democrat from her own mother.
And for Frankel, “standing up” means tackling the GOP and their attacks on reproductive rights, something that she feels impacts every woman — whether she is a mother or not.
“Why Florida’s GOP would want to further restrict a woman’s right to choose is beyond me,” she writes, singling out the “radical bill” requiring women to get two letters from doctors stating the abortion is medically necessary.
Frankel calls it both disrespectful and insulting to women, the people who have made the decisions about children “since the beginning of time.”
On Mother’s Day, Frankel asks supporters to take up the fight for the rights of all women.
It is the best way to honor all mothers — as well as those who choose not to be.
