The Republican Party of Florida collected nearly $2.2 million in cash from Nov. 2 to Dec. 31, dwarfing the $424,302 raised by the Florida Democratic Party, according to reports posted Thursday on the state Division of Elections website via the News Service of Florida.

The GOP raised a total of about $28.2 million in 2012, while the Democrats brought in about $11.2 million. The Republican totals during the past two months were bolstered by contributions from lawmakers’ political committees and campaign funds, along with money from corporate donors. As an example, the reports indicate the “Committee for a Conservative House,” which is headed by Speaker Will Weatherford, R-Wesley Chapel, sent $640,000 to the GOP on Nov. 2.

Among the largest donors to the Democratic Party during the two-month period was Florida Power & Light, which contributed $50,000.
